OPENING
COMMENTS:
BOARD MEMBERS
Supervisor Buster made comments regarding
furloughs and asked to make the necessary policy changes to push the agenda
forward by one day because of the time lost due to the Friday closure.
Supervisor Stone commented on the fires
taking place throughout the California counties and he asked Chief Hawkins to
give an update on the fires.
Chief Hawkins gave fire update.
Supervisor Buster thanked the Chief and
commended his response on the Grand Jury report regarding volunteer
firefighters.
Supervisor Stone mentioned the Superior
Court self-help centers that provide free services to people who need help when
filing claims, etc. He also congratulated Brian McGowan,
a third district resident who has been selected to head the United States
Commerce Economic Development Agency in Washington D.C. Mr. McGowan will be
speaking at the State of Transformation event held at the Riverside Convention
Center.
Supervisor Tavaglione attended the CSAC
Executive Committee and a Supervisor from Los Angeles County gave a
presentation regarding their “10,000 jobs initiative.” Supervisor Tavaglione
felt it was a good program and would like to see it replicated in this county.
STATE BUDGET UPDATE
Supervisor Tavaglione mentioned that the
legislature is in session for one more week. He said among the proposals, is an
initiative to release 27,000 prisoners. He also mentioned that AB 422 will help
the Healthy Families program. Lastly, he
commented on the property assessments State wide
falling for the first time since 1933 and believes it will continue to drop for
at least another year.
