ORDINANCE NO. 773.1

AN ORDINANCE OF THE COUNTY OF RIVERSIDE

REPEALING ORDINANCE NO. 773

 

WHEREAS, the people of the State of California have enacted the Political Reform Act of 1996 at the general election of November, 1996; and

 

WHEREAS, in order to advance the purposes for which the Political Reform Act of 1996 was adopted by the voters and to assist in reducing the significant sums of money being spent on local political campaigns, it is desirable to establish voluntary expenditure ceilings for candidates and controlled committees of candidates for Riverside County offices, as permitted by California Government Code Section 85400; and

 

WHEREAS, on January 6, 1998, the Federal Court found a substantial portion of Proposition 208 unconstitutional and enjoined the State Fair Political Practices Commission from enforcing any of the provisions of Proposition 208 pending further order of the Court; and

 

WHEREAS, to alleviate as much uncertainty concerning the impacts of Proposition 208 on the current election cycle the Board of Supervisor have determined it best to repeal Ordinance No. 773.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, the Board of Supervisors of the County of Riverside, State of California, Ordains as follows:

 

Section 1.     Ordinance No. 773 is hereby repealed in its entirety.  

 

Section 2.      This Ordinance shall take effect 30 days after the date of  adoption.
